(Increasing the font size will cause text overlapping with some browsers, such as Firefox) What does born again mean and how are we born again? The Bible tells us that to become a Christian we must be born again (born of God). Being born into this world is our first birth and no one is given any choice in that matter. However, God gives us the choice of having a second birth - to be born again and start a new life. This happens when a person willingly turns their back on sin and turns to Jesus for forgiveness and asks Him to be Lord ... that is, the boss of their life. The Spirit of God then enters the person to give them the power to start this new life ... the person becomes a new creation in Christ and is Spiritually born (adopted) into the family of God and so becomes a child of God. God sends His Holy Spirit into believers to give them His much needed power over their sinful nature so that they are able to live a life that is pleasing to Him. Through this power, believers are freed from the power of sin and, its penalty of hell, and are no longer enslaved to their sinful nature.
Religion will not get anyone to heaven. Jesus said that no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again (John 3:3).
[To be a Christian you must be born again and if you are born again then you are a Christian. Therefore, calling someone a 'Born Again Christian' is a bit like calling me an Australian Aussie.]
